The Newton South indoor track team posted one of its most successful seasons to date, with the girls winning the Dual County League (DCL) Championship and placing second at states, and the boys placing second at the DCL Championship and seventh at states.
The girls’ team went 8–0 this season, and placed second in All States, falling short of first by a mere four points.
The boys’ team finished the season with an impressive 7–1 record in the regular season, and lost the DCL Championships by just one point, 84–83, to Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. Read more »

By Patrick Kennedy

After an exciting season of ups and downs for NCAA fans, here are some helpful March Madness hints for all the bracket-busters out there.
First off, let’s reflect back on the college basketball season that was. It was another great year for the freshmen, a roller coaster in the polls, and an ongoing coaching carousel. Sports Spotlight: Jeff Ackerstein and Josh Einhorn

By Andrew Klegman and Amrita Rao

Senior boys’ volleyball captains Jeff Ackerstein and Josh Einhorn are looking forward to a successful season and are hoping to accomplish some of their major goals.
Last season, the team made it to the state tournament, their longtime goal. In the first round, the ninth-seeded boys’ team beat eighth-seed Taunton, but came up short in their next match against top-seeded New Bedford.
Hoping to reach the tournament for a second consecutive year, captains Ackerstein and Einhorn are hoping to obtain a higher seed for their team. They want to continue further in the state tournament, building off of success from previous years. Read more »

South falls in first round of State Tournament

By Mark Garrity

After hitting their stride in the middle of the season, the Newton South boys’ basketball team lost steam towards the end, losing to Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, Waltham High School, and ultimately Taunton High School at the state tournament on February 28.
The Lions were the Division I tenth seed at states, and Taunton the seventh seed. The team finished the season with an 11-9 record. Read more »
